Fine Dining in the Ancient World

co-produced by Suzanne Cross & Santa Fe Classic Theater
An evening talk and food sampling with Suzanne Cross
July 17 • 7 pm • International Shakespeare CENTER • 3209A Calle Marie • $10 suggested donation at the door

The Santa Fe Summer Shakespeare festival, in 2022, will present full productions of Pericles (set in ancient Greece and Turkey), The Comedy of Errors (Syracuse and Ephesus in Ionian Greece), and The Winter’s Tale (Sicilia and Bohemia), dancing around ancient Mediterranean cultures of Greece, Rome, and Persia. For a lighter festival touch, Santa Fe's Suzanne Cross will present a talk centered on DINING IN THE ANCIENT WORLD to tie together the kinds of dinner parties Antipholus of Syracuse or Pericles would throw for their pre-theater audiences! After a quick ancient gastronomic tour, guests can sample cooking from around the ancient Mediterranean before seeing the plays themselves.

Suzanne Cross was a founding and long-time member of the online community ANCIENTSITES/ANCIENTWORLDS (1997-2013) and gave multiple real and virtual banquets set ancient Greece and Rome. She has also presented several talks in Santa Fe about Shakespeare and food for ISC and other groups in the past. Her last effort was 'DINING WITH KING LEAR' for the ISC production in 2019.
