The ISC has an exciting program called Long Dead But Well Read. It’s modeled on a program at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London called Read not Dead, in which actors convene on a morning, rehearse a play by a contemporary of Shakespeare’s during the day, and present the play in the evening, script in hand.
Lope de Vega
The Spanish playwright Lope de Vega (1562–1635, lived to be 73 years old) was contemporaneous with Shakespeare. He is generally considered the only playwright of comparison with Shakespeare.
Capulets and Montagues
Lope de Vega’s “tragicomedia” is based on the same source material as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, although de Vega’s play is more compact than Shakespeare’s version, fast-paced, and with a different ending. Come enjoy another telling of the story and compare writers!
